Creativity is a living thing and I allow it to evolve.
I seem to be on a creative journey these last few years so I’m just going to follow what is set out before me. There are so many ways that come to me to create and this time of year is the perfect energy for it. Not only does it help me go beyond what I thought I could produce but it takes me away from the currant world we see today.
What I’m finding as I evolve with constant painting videos, lessons and practice is my ability to replicate what I see in my mind. This as you may know helps the artist in the midst of the crazy and if you know anyone that is a creator or perhaps yourself, you know what I’m talking about. Athletes and musicians experience this, poets and writers; a flow of ease in the process.
I think the challenge for creators is to focus on one thing to finalize it. We tend to leave one project to go to another and due to time constraints, complexities and of course not loving it as we create we very often leave pieces to complete later. My question comes up; how do we accomplish finishing the piece; the place where you come to and say ok it’s done.
We discussed this in our circle one time and I suggested to set a deadline, ie I’m spending time on (30 min to 2 hours) Friday to put time into this project with the purpose to decide at the end of that time if it suites me better. Ask yourself the questions; Is it complete? The point is that you spent time on that question to know in fact it is time to leave it alone.
Look at it later with fresh new eyes and perspective and make a call. I’ve warmed up to quite a few watercolours over time and I’m glad that I did. I may have developed it with shadows and shading but if it have the energy I’m looking for, it’s done.
Creativity is a living thing and I allow it to evolve.
