Kiama is a lovely little seaside town in Australia just south of Sydney. We've been invited to partake in an Art Retreat and
Louise Job Murray of Kiama invites you too!
November 1, 2 & 3, 2024
This beautiful Art Retreat weekend has been designed to inspire and motivate you to jump into your watercolour ambitions and create art all weekend with like minded artists from around the world.
Kiama is known for it's beauty along the eastern shoreline of Australia so it will not be hard to find inspiration to paint. The beaches are plentiful and go on for miles. We will be sure to visit the natural blow hole, a space between the shoreline rocks that shoots up water from the ocean as the waves come crashing in.
Small Inns and Bed & Breakfast destinations are numerous and given November is approaching summer in the southern hemisphere, it's advised to plan ahead and book a place to stay.
Surfers and boaters dot the shoreline and has intrigued many I'm sure to put colour to paper to recreate, not only what one sees, but what one feels.
Our first evening will provide a warm up exercise with an abstract piece that helps our overworked brain create new pathways. Many artists have been talking about Neurographic Art and we've experienced the shift that allows stillness, peace and light, in doing this work. Our orientation Friday night with Neurographic art includes all materials needed with tea and bickies served at close of day.
Saturday we make our main piece that starts with connecting to local plants, flowers, leaves, seed pods and tendrils to build a Plant Mandala. A meditative process allows you to connect with the essence of the plant while tuning into the energy of each shape and shadow.
Start your sketch from the centre to work your way to the outside circle and after a luscious lunch we paint the mandala from the plants that have chosen you. You take home a love filled remembrance of your connection to mother earth, an energetic symbol of your time creating. Break for afternoon tea if you can.
Sunday we're at the beach with a fun outdoor picnic lunch while we set up our canvas with water and colour. Let the sky sing, let the water flow, feel the earth move as the shoreline appears on your paper. To experience Plein Aire in surroundings as these just may be the high point on this artist's journey.
Be sure to bring your folding chair with comfy clothes and shoes.
